There were many Political Responses torward the Civil Rights. One response was an incident between Martin Luther King and the Police he was arrested in Georgia and sentenced four months in Prison but Robert Kennedy persauded the sentencing to release him on bail and the black community thought he did the right thing so, they did something for him later on.
Another Political Response was Kennedy's approach torward Civil Rights his approach was talked about but he never actively pushed the issue, I think one reason he didn't push the issue was because he didn't want to anger Southern Democratic Senators whose votes he needed on other issues. Later on they had did something for him when it was election time many people changed their votes from Nixon to Kennedy and he won the election mainly because of African Americans. Kennedy made a Civil Rights Bill, The bill would prohibit segregation in public places, ban discrimination wherever federal funding was involved, and advance school desegragation however, powerful Southern segregationists in congress kept the bill from coming up for a vote.
The Civil Rights Act had four goals
They banned the use of different voter registration standards for Blacks and Whites
Prohibited discrimination in public places such as hotels, Gas stations, and Sports arenas
Allowed the with holding of federal funds from public or private programs that practice discrimination
Banned discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion,or natural origin by employers and unions and they also created the (EEOC) Equal employment Opportunity Comission
Another political issue was the March on Washington the march was held in August 1963 more than 200,000 people came from all over the country to call for Jobs and freedom.
The Political Response was really about Politicans responding to public opinion and listening to the poeple and moving forward with strong civil rights legislation such as the Civil Rights act of 1965, March on Washington, many politicans fighting for the right for african Americans to vote, and many other issues.
